传说宋朝大学士苏东坡晚年弃官来到蜀山，他喜欢吃茶，但觉得吃茶的紫砂茶壶都太小，使用起来不太方便，不能够畅饮为快。于是苏东坡决定做一把大茶壶，他吩咐书僮买来壶泥和工具，开始制做。谁知看似容易做却难，苏东坡一做做了几个月，还是一筹莫展。一天夜里，小书僮提着灯笼送来夜点心，苏东坡手捧点心，眼睛却朝灯笼直转，心想：哎！我何不照灯笼的样子做一把茶壶？几经研究和实验，终于灯笼壶做好，又大又光滑，却不好拿，苏东坡思量：如何能让茶壶可以用来喝茶，还可以煮茶，抬头见屋顶的大梁从这一头搭到那一头，两头都有木柱撑牢，便动手照屋梁的样子来做茶壶。经过几个月的细作精修，茶壶作成了，苏东坡非常满意，就起名字曰“提梁壶”。
于是提梁壶便成了壶中经典，后来，世人用紫砂、陶瓷等材料仿制。本件作品便是通过玉雕的形式来展示主题的。通常玉雕器皿对于玉料、玉工的要求较高，历来为收藏重器，在历次清宫旧藏拍卖会上，玉雕器皿往往能拍得高价，不乏拔得头筹之作。本作品采用极品带糖俄罗斯白玉精制而成，玉质白润如雪，细腻如羊脂，糖色则聚如红糖。造型工整优美，造型简洁流畅，俏色独特，摘色干净利落，凸显作者的技艺娴熟，手法老到。配以别致红木吊架底座，使作品产生了妙手偶得的艺术魅力之外，平添华美尊贵之气。加之此作曾在2013年中国（苏州）子冈本杯玉石雕精品博览会获得金奖，又是宫廷器皿件领军人物魏玉忠大师代表作之一，集工、艺、韵一体，实为收藏上品。
